Digital Education

Who would have guessed 2020 would start like this?

These are times when major disruptions to our normal life has turned everything upside down due to the current pandemic situation. As we focus on education for children, we have noticed that from schools to universities facing dilemma on how to run fair exams or online classrooms. The major barrier has been the digital divide that not all students have proper access to internet and computers (or even electricity in case for our children) to make this viable.

Kids.R.ok initiated a small test run by selecting 2 children from our Saidapet project to take part in a digital summer camp workshop for children organized by educators who ran this camp through Zoom/ Whatsapp.

We see this as a successful pre-cursor to the future of how education will be imparted and the new era of free flow of knowledge should be accessible to all children irrespective of their background.

Taking it online – we have been keeping track of the children who are able to use smart phone (or have access to it) to enroll them for our online learning – math, language and arts. Our teachers take part in teaching and correcting it online

We have rapidly adapted our programs for virtual settings using Zoom and Whatsapp platforms since our onsite centers had to temporary close in early March 2020 due to the pandemic. The children have continued to thrive in their learning during this time and we have received many positive feedback from their parents and families about their children learning from home.

As we encourage more children to participate in the online class, we use a online scoring metric giving stars on the board for children who complete their assignments dutifully.

If you have any new ways that can help children get more value from other online learning apps or methods, please contact us: evangelin@kidsrok.org
